Geminids meteor shower coming next week

This is going to be a more unsettled week of weather across Middle Tennessee with off-and-on rain chances.

High temperatures will mostly be in the 50s.Temperatures and rainfall are expected to stay above normal through the middle of the month.

We just don’t get the bitter cold in December like we used to. On Dec. 11, 1962, Nashville received three inches of snow and the temperature dropped to 3 degrees. On Dec. 9, 1917, one foot of snow fell on the Clarksville area.

The Geminids is considered the king of the meteor showers and it is coming up on the night of Monday, Dec. 13 and the early morning of Dec. 14.

The moon will block out fainter meteors, but the Geminids are so numerous that they could still put on a good show. The best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight.
