Sycamore hosted Springfield on Tuesday, November 16 to begin the basketball season as the Lady War Eagles took the girls game while the Yellow Jackets were able to get some revenge in the boys contest for a season-opening split.

The Sycamore girls’ team didn’t take long to get rolling as the Lady War Eagles led by ten points and pushed the lead to 26-15 going into the half. The Sycamore defense stayed stout in the second half holding Springfield to only 28 points total as Izzy McPherson led Sycamore with 12 points on offense for the 51-29 win.

Springfield’s boys’ team returned the favor but did have to fight through some early adversity to come back. Sycamore led by two points at the end of the first quarter but the Yellow Jackets came back to take a 35-26 lead to the half. Springfield would hold on to that lead and build on it later in the game to take the win, 66-50. It was Fisher Bailey’s debut game as Sycamore’s head coach.
