Sycamore started its playoff run with a tight 44-38 victory over Westmoreland, and since that point, the War Eagles were able to stay alive throughout.
In the second round of the district tournament Sycamore held off Harpeth in a low-scoring affair with a 22-20 win.
The 22-20 score may not look exciting, but the in-county playoff game had all the makings of an ESPN Classic. An 8-6 score at half brought comments on social media like “snooze fest” and “boring,” but it was fair from that. Sycamore and Harpeth both played excellent defense, and there was no holding of the ball to run out the clock or real stoppages in play, just two hard-nosed teams that fought for every possession.
Sycamore got the win and advance to play White House-Heritage in the district championship. Sycamore lost to White House-Heritage in the district final, but still locked in a Region 5 game with Maplewood.
With the Region 5 birth, Sycamore travelled to Maplewood. The War Eagles defeated Maplewood 46-44 last Saturday evening to stay alive.
Sycamore will travel to East Nashville on March 2 for its second-round region matchup. With a win against East Nashville, Sycamore will punch its ticket to a sectional game, win or loss, in the region championship.
