Alycia Pennington led Sycamore in many offensive statistics this past season, earning her the Main Street Preps/Cheatham County Exchange Softball Player of the Year Award.

Pennington’s junior season included a .381 batting average, 23 runs, 28 stolen bases and 24 hits.

“I feel like our first game against Cheatham was a very strong start,” Pennington said. “It really set the tone for the rest of my season. One of my highlights was being selected as leadoff batter for Sycamore.”

Pennington, who played in the outfield, used her promotion to leadoff as a confidence booster.

“Being selected leadoff resulted in 28 stolen bases for me and it means so much to me that Coach J (Jacquelyn Guerin-Slayton) has the confidence in me to help lead the Lady War Eagles,” Pennington said.

“Many athletes in Cheatham County are qualified to be player of the year, and I am so grateful to be selected among these amazing athletes. Every day I dedicate my heart to the game and it’s been my passion for as long as I can remember. I have a choice on what I can do with my time and I choose to spend it on the field with my team. I plan on continuing to practice, continue to be a team player, and keep my grades high.”
