Pleasant View native Aubrey Barnhart has been named the Tennessee Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, given each year to the top high school softball player in the state.
She is a senior at Goodpasture High School and has committed to play at Alabama, which was ranked as high as No. 3 in the country this past season. Barnhart had committed to Auburn as an eighth grader but later reopened her recruiting.
The award not only recognizes athletic achievements but also academic excellence and character off the field. Barnhart, who is a member of the Beta Club, also volunteered to help underprivileged children and maintained a 4.27 GPA in her classes.
The shortstop/catcher batted .600 with one home run and eight RBIs in the shortened seven-game season. Extra Inning Softball ranks her the No. 3 overall prospect in the nation for the Class of 2021.
“It is extremely exciting to be named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year,” Barnhart said. “It’s a huge honor and I’m blessed to say the least.
“Being able to play for the University of Alabama is such an honor. Just being able to play for one of the best programs is an honor as well and I can’t wait for my four years at ‘Bama.”
