KINGSTON SPRINGS – Harpeth Middle School did not allow East Hickman to score until the fourth quarter and beat the Eagles 44-6 at home last week in its first game of the season.
The Harpeth defense grabbed three turnovers and had enough of a cushion that the starters left the game at the end of the third quarter. The Indians scored 24 points in the second quarter to lead 30-0 at halftime.
“We looked pretty good on both sides of the ball for the first game of the season,” Harpeth coach Charles Morehead said. “We still have a lot of work to do but we have a pretty good backfield and the line looks good. I believe we will get better each game.”
Hayden Penrod and Landon Perry were the offensive stars for Harpeth.
“Hayden Penrod and Landon Perry both had a great game,” Morehead said. “But the entire offensive line really did a good job as well.”
This week, the Indians were scheduled to host new Burns Middle School on Tuesday and then will play at Cheatham Middle School on Thursday.
