Dr. Joseph Weatherford opened his eye care business at The Village in Pleasant View in 2008. The number of patients has more than doubled since a move to Highway 41A just three years ago.
The location is next door to The Pleasant View Village Primary Care, which also made moved from the Village just a few years previously.
“Back in 2008 I took the business plan seriously with goals,” said Weatherford. “I was open three days a week back then at first. Then I added equipment and improved the standard of care. Then, three years ago, I moved out of that smaller space in the Village and now have my own building here. Nine years after starting there, I’ve added another doctor, which also helps with having more time with my kids.”
In July, Weatherford hired Blair Solomon from Brentwood. Solomon is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Weatherford trained at the same optometry school.
“I enjoy getting to help people,” said Solomon. “It’s my number one reason for going to optometry school and to make a difference. I want everyone to get the best vision they can, and I also enjoy getting to know people.”
Both doctors agree that the biggest impact on vision is often overlooked, especially with people spending a lot of time with focusing issues because of increased screen time on phones, computers, tablets and similar devices.
“It’s hard to focus after being on the phone all day, and then having to look far away,” Weatherford said. “You need to relax your eyes after overworking them.”
Solomon expressed her delight in being a part of the office’s vision team.
“Everyone here, especially Dr. Weatherford, has been especially helpful and welcoming,” she said. “Any question I have he (Weatherford) is always there to help. Patients are also so welcoming toward me even though I’m someone they haven’t seen before since they’ve been coming to Dr. Weatherford. They’re so willing to give me a shot.”
Weatherford said he is just as pleased to have Solomon on board.
“She brings a positive attitude and a positive spirit, and she’s prepared for care every day,” he said. “You don’t always find that. Her willingness to do whatever it takes to take care of patients is great. She doesn’t sit idle for long, and I really respect and appreciate that.
“Also, our clinical skills will be top notch because we both went to the same school of optometry. I hear her interact with patients. It’s very important to me to interact and get to know our patients — she does a really good job at that.”
Weatherford worked for five years in Clarksville before opening his Pleasant View business and said family is a driving factor for his success. Weatherford and his wife, Erin, have been married for 20 years. They have a daughter, Sydney, 17, and three sons, Kirk, 14, Braxton, 11, and Collier, 4.
Solomon and her husband, Nick, whom she’s known for seven years, were married in September.
The business includes patients from Clarksville, Ashland City, Nashville, Brentwood and other locations near Cheatham County.
“The care and service I receive from Dr. Weatherford and his amazing staff is top notch,” Pleasant View resident Paula Lee said. “No matter the reason for my call or visit, my issues and concerns are always addressed in a timely and professional manner. With my complicated health issues (a cancer survivor), Dr. Weatherford is always very thorough in his assessment and refers me to the best specialists when needed.
“He includes me in the decision making of treatment plans and takes all the time necessary to address any questions and concerns I may have. He also provides the same professional and friendly care to my mother, who has also been his patient for many years. Pleasant View is blessed to have such an amazing eye doctor in our community.”
