Updates with council appointment
JT Smith has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Ashland City Council.
The council voted 4-2 on Tuesday night to appoint him to the Ward 1 seat left vacant by Lisa Walker’s resignation in September.
He was one of four applicants along with Vivian Foston, Misty Holloway and Michael Smith.
Smith is expected to be sworn in at or before the Feb. 2 council workshop.
The seat goes up for election in December 2023.
“It’s just a matter of when they get sworn in,” said Kellie Reed, the town recorder.
Reed reminded the council that Gov. Bill Lee signed an order Dec. 22 allowing local governments to halt physical access to meetings through Feb. 27 on account of the coronavirus.
