MURFREESBORO – Cheatham County defeated Macon County 75-51 on Friday in the Class AA girls state basketball semifinals, sending the Lady Cubs to Saturday’s state championship game for the first time.

Abbi Douglas led all scorers with 27 points and Alli Douglas added 22 points and 11 rebounds for Cheatham County, which will play the winner of the Marshall County-Westview game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at MTSU

Macon County ran out to a 15-9 lead about halfway through the first quarter, but the Lady Cubs got going and were able to get the score back to even at 18-18 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter, however, belonged to Cheatham County as it outscored Macon County 15-6 in the second quarter alone.

In the first half Macon County, a team that usually shoots well, made only one of its eight 3-point attempts. A telling stat at half was assists; Cheatham had nine while Macon didn’t tally a single assist for the entire first half.

The Lady Cubs began the fourth quarter with a 52-33 lead and the Lady Cubs made free throws to keep the lead.
