MURFREESBORO — Emmy Nelson scored 14 points before fouling out as Cheatham County defeated Grainger 49-41 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Class AA tournament at MTSU’s Murphy Center.
The Lady Cubs will play Macon County in the semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m.
Abbi Douglas scored 12 points and Jorden Bumpus added 10, including free throws near the end of the game to seal the win.
Every time the Lady Cubs would increase their lead, Grainger made a 3-pointer to fight back.
Cheatham County led 23-17 at halftime but that lead ended when Grainger took a one-point lead late in the third quarter by hitting 3-pointers.
The Lady Cubs took a lead in the fourth quarter, although it was not bigger than four points until the end of the game.
With Nelson fouled out, Alli Douglas played with four fouls for most of the fourth quarter.
