Former Cheatham County School Board member Debbie Keenan has submitted a request to fill the school board’s seat recently vacated by Kim Messer, according to the county clerk’s office.
County Clerk Teresa Gupton said Keenan was the only person to have submitted a bid to fill Messer’s seat at the close of business last Friday.
Keenan, the chair of the Art League of Cheatham County, was a school board member from 1988-1994, according to the letter sent to the county commission.
The county commissioners will appoint someone to fill out the term until the general election on Aug. 6. To be considered, a person must be a resident of the Second District, which is the East Cheatham-Joelton area, and have a high school degree or GED.
Applicants for the vacant seat can submit requests to the county clerk’s office at least seven days before the commission’s meeting on Jan. 27. They can also submit their names and qualifications to the commission chairman when the meeting is held.
In addition, commissioners can submit names for consideration at the meeting.
Messer resigned to take the resource coordinator position at Riverside Academy, the school district said. Messer had been on the school board since 2014, serving as chairwoman for two years.
