I am a candidate for the Ashland City Council Ward 2 because I am truly interested in our community, our people, our quality of life and feel that our town is presently at a critical crossroad.

While I want to see Ashland City thrive, I don’t want us swallowed and drastically altered by the Nashville sprawl which is already upon us. Each and every issue from development, planning, preservation and citizens’ rights should be carefully considered in order to balance growth with our town’s comfort

and charm.

Ashland City has been my home for over 10 years. My family roots go back to one of the founding families of the county. My parents, Monte and Janie Binkley, were born and raised in Cheatham County and both graduated from CCHS. I have seen the changes in this community since childhood.

I attended Middle Tennessee State University and Vol State College. I have worked in the financial industry for almost 30 years. I am employed by Fleetcor Technologies Inc. I am an active member of the Cheatham County Historical & Genealogical Association.

I am optimistic the changes we face and the many decisions that will need to be made can impact our town for the better. I vow to be open minded and to consider the concerns and needs of my constituents and to be a responsible representative for all citizens.

I strongly believe the voices and equal input from women is sorely missing in our town’s government, particularly the city council. I want to be your councilperson to share my voice, work ethic and perspective. I hope you will support me with your vote.

MY PLATFORM

FOR working with the city government and council to create and support a well-designed plan to manage growth, prevent overbuilding and limit overcrowding in our city.

FOR revising building codes and zoning laws. Zoning and codes should be updated and enforced for our citizens’ best interest.

FOR the much-needed update and expansion of city infrastructure. Growth creates demand.

FOR continuing to prioritize a well-funded and well-trained Police and Fire Department. Again, growth creates demand.

FOR incentives for developers that build single-family homes.

FOR incentives that encourage and support small businesses, new and existing, within the city limits.

FOR more sidewalks in our city, not just on Main Street.

FOR expanded support for our Senior Center and outreach assistance for those in need.

FOR promoting Eco Tourism through expanding the agenda of the Parks and Recreation Department to capitalize on our waterways and develop more natural parks to generate revenue from “day tourists” visiting our town.

FOR maximizing Riverbluff Park in conjunction with the upcoming expansion of the Bicentennial Trail.

FOR hosting more diverse family-friendly events to the city including craft & art fairs, food festivals, historical events & tours, musical concerts and cultural events.
