A Cheatham County man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 6 fatal shooting of a man in Murfreesboro.
Larry Thomas Johnson II, 23, of 893 Gibbs Rd. was taken into custody without incident by members of the Rutherford County Criminal Warrants Division, with assistance from the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office and Murfreesboro Police Department detectives last Tuesday.
Johnson is being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He has a court appearance scheduled for April 5 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
Giovanni Gilis, 21, was shot and killed following a fight between several people at a house party in Murfreesboro. An altercation turned physical before multiple shots were fired inside the Ewing Boulevard duplex, possibly one shot by Gilis.
According to the affidavit of complaint, Murfreesboro police interviewed Johnson as a witness when they arrived at the duplex around 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 6.
Later, two eyewitnesses identified Johnson as the person who shot Gilis. Det. Cody Thomas wrote in the complaint that statement made by Johnson in the initial interview were “determined to contain multiple inconsistencies.”
