Mephisto’s tent sale is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 13-14 inside and outside the Mephisto outlet at 305 Seaboard Lane in the Cool Springs area of Franklin.

Let me just say that I rarely — if ever — spend more than $100 on a pair of shoes. But that is not to say that I don’t like to wear expensive shoes.

The good news is that with this weekend’s tent sale at the Mephisto outlet in Franklin, I can get some comfy shoes that typically retail for $159 to $499 for just $59.99 to $89.99!

“Customers can expect to find styles across the spectrum — sandals, flats, boots, sneakers, you name it. It’s a hunt,” said Scott McCabe, director of ecommerce and merchandising for this maker of high-end European footwear, known for its comfort.

“Since it is a tent sale, it is a combination of everything — photo samples, seconds, overstocks, returns — and everything is priced accordingly,” McCabe said. “Prices are up to 75% off retail.”

He said the racks will be restocked throughout the sale. “Sometimes customers will come back and see us the next day just in case something else got put out,” McCabe said.

The sale, which will have men’s and women’s shoes and boots, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 13-14 inside and outside the Mephisto outlet at 305 Seaboard Lane in the Cool Springs area of Franklin. Brands will include Mephisto, Mobils and Allrounder.

McCabe said the store’s staff will be on hand to help with proper fit of the shoes, which are sized in American and European sizes — a ladies 37 in European is equal to a 7 to 7½ American, or a 44 men’s European equals a size 10 American. He also said there would be chairs for trying on shoes and carpeting so shoppers could check out the feel.

He also offered an insider tip: “Women customers who are a size 7 and men that are size 8 will find a lot of specials on the sample rack. This can vary a bit by style, so if you are a women’s 6½ or 7½ or a men’s 7½ to 8½, this is worth your time to stop by.”

A few examples of pricing are women’s sandals will be $59.99 instead of the usual $159-$299; women’s boots will be $99.99 instead of $299-$499; and men’s shoes $89.99 instead of $199-$399.

There are also volume discounts — 10% off if you buy three pairs of shoes and 20% off if you buy six pairs. The price for the Allrounder active line will be $49.99-$79.99 instead of $109-$249.

The inventory is about 60%-65% women’s shoes and about 35%-40% men’s.

This sale takes place twice a year, and McCabe said there will be a food truck “to add to the fun.”
