At 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 3, two Gray Line buses with 109 seniors on board left Sycamore Square for a one-day boat trip with Southern Belle Riverboat Cruises in Chattanooga.
“There are typically four long trips each year and two or three overnight trips, and there are also day trips,” said Kathy Nicholson, the morning programs coordinator at the Senior Center of Ashland City. “Melissa (Womack) listens to where people want to go, and she makes things happen.”
Womack is the director of the Senior Center at Ashland City, having revitalized the facility since she arrived on Aug. 1, 2011.
Nicholson pointed out the nine-day Alaskan cruise that 52 seniors took last May.
“They flew to Seattle and boarded a ship for Alaska,” Nicholson said, adding that the seniors have also taken a nine-day East Coast cruise to Maine.
She said that plans are in the works for a March or April trip by bus to Florida that will include stops at Amelia Island and Jacksonville.
“In November there’s a trip down River Road to Ray Stevens Caba Ray in Nashville,” she said.
