Calli Copeland, a senior at Harpeth High School, recently received the Tennessee School Boards Association’s Student Recognition Award for the Mid-Cumberland region.

Copeland was presented with the award on Sept. 29 at the TSBA Fall District meeting for the Mid-Cumberland region at Centennial High School.

The Student Recognition Award recognizes students from across the state who have distinguished themselves in academics, community leadership and engagement.

One student is selected from each region in the state. The nine region winners will now compete for the state award.

Copeland has served as the HHS class president for three years and is the president of the school’s Unified Club.

As part of the Unified Club, she has planned school-wide and district-wide events such as the track and field Special Olympics. She has also coordinated a school-wide basketball game, which pits the Unified basketball team against the HHS traditional basketball team.

Copeland serves as a Youth Leadership Ambassador for Special Olympics Tennessee. She had the honor to represent Tennessee at the 2022 Special Olympics summer games as a Unified youth leader.

She has also been a part of the Model United Nations (MUN) and Youth in Government (YIG) programs. These events feature governmental debates with other students across Tennessee where they write and debate bills to try and get them passed. At these conferences, she has won the Outstanding Delegate Award and Outstanding Statemen Award.
