Haley Tenpenny, a graduating senior from Harpeth High School, has been announced as the very first $1,000 scholarship winner by the Cheatham County Art League.

The scholarship will be formally awarded May 19 during the Cheatham County School District’s Senior Awards ceremony, to be held at the Board of Education.

This scholarship can be used for college tuition, trade school or any traditional secondary school. This scholarship can also be used by a graduating senior who plans to put it toward their creative future and endeavors in the form of supplies, workshops, studio space, lessons, equipment, etc. Students in visual arts, music, and performing arts are all encouraged to apply.

“She’s one of the more open people to understanding various new avenues and ideas and mediums that I’ve not seen since I’ve been working with other artists in college and in my professional career. She’s not scared to try anything new when it comes to exploring her skills and her understanding of working with material,” Harpeth art teacher Adam Sandor said in a letter recommending Tenpenny for the scholarship.

The Art League of Cheatham County awarded the scholarship based upon several factors: talent, financial need, work ethic, plans for the scholarship’s use and anticipated costs and required recommendations.

Tenpenny also received second place at the March Juried Art Show at Sycamore Square.
