The Cruise’n N Groove’n car show had an event-record 250 cars on display for the first event of the season on May 30 in Pleasant View Village.
The event is usually held on the third Saturday of each month from May through October from 5-9 p.m.
“We set a record crowd,” event organizer Jim Hutchens said. “We had between 230 and 250 cars. The standing record before was around 185. This time, the weather was perfect. People wanted to get out, and the restaurants were slammed.”
Hutchens said that each month the family-friendly event draws visitors from Cheatham, Robertson, Montgomery and Davidson counties.
Cruise’n N Groove’n got its start on Main Street in 2013, but the event moved to Pleasant View Village in 2017.
“The fire department was planning to build its new fire hall complex,” Hutchens said, adding that the new location offered much more space for participants and visitors.
Hutchens said he received quite a few calls from people wanting to know if the event might be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are always very busy during the car show and especially the first one,” Flytes Brewhouse owner Trish Nelson said. “So, obviously it has impacted us in a great way.”
Pleasant View parks and recreation member Jill Niccolich said she was especially pleased by the turnout for the popular family-friendly community event.
“The turnout for the first Cruise’n N Groove’n of the 2020 season blew us all away,” said Niccolich. “We were hoping for a large crowd, but we really didn’t know what to expect because of the COVID-19 pandemic. People were still trying to be socially distant; but at the same time, a lot of people that I spoke with were ready to be out and about. So, this was a great opportunity for families to get outside and see some amazing cars. We can’t wait till our next show on June 20.”
